On Saturday June 22nd Naas Rotary Club hosted the Summer Ball at Killashee Hotel.  This was a fundraiser for Barretstown.

Attending on the evening were the District Governor of Rotary Ireland, Monica Robertson, District Governor-Elect William Cross and his wife Tedi, along with the President of Naas Rotary Club Michele Furey and Dee Ahern CEO Barretstown.

It was a wonderful evening with the raffle and auction items giving great entertainment.

Among the items for auction were tickets for the hurling and football All Ireland, a painting by Karen Donoghue, a meal with our local TD James Lawless and a signed IRFU jersey.

Karen Donoghue Artwork

Karen Donoghue Artwork – “I am a mixed- media artist, living locally in Naas. Having graduated from Limerick College of Art & Design in 1990 and worked in design for many years,I am now a Mum of 3 boys… Art is my sanity! Inspired by nature, the landscape and love of natural materials, my artwork currently explores the ancient technique of ‘encaustic’ painting. Using molten beeswax, tree resin & pigments, each layer is fused with heat to a wooden cradle. The buttery ‘encaustic’ medium creates a luminosity that reflects the light. Textures are built up and carved out to give my artwork a 3-dimensional quality.”

Some items generated great rivalry as both camps wanted to get their hands on the All Ireland tickets, one gentleman from the Dublin side of the country and a lady from the Limerick area.

There was a selection of raffle prizes donated, these included The Carpentry Store,  a voucher for Hugh Statham, Event make up by Catriona Ures,  bottles of wine, afternoon tea at Killashee and B&B at Killashee Hotel.

The pictures were taken by the Camera Club from Kildare.

The music was provided by John Forde and his 52nd Street Band.

All of this effort was to provide funds to run the Community Fete in Naas on August 17th in Main Street, Naas, again in aid of Barretstown.
